How do you do the "Checking for Breakfast" Mission?

I am suck on the "Checking for Breakfast" Mission. How do I tend to 10 unready neighborhood chickens? I click on the chickens but they never register. What do I do?

Assumeing that the neighbors chickens do not have the Arrow above their head?? tool icon should change to a brush for unready animals.

How do I find the eggs and bacon? I've tended hundreds of chickens and pigs and no bacon and eggs!
